Love in a Box – November 2018

Of course, the November “Love in a Box” theme has to be “Thanksgiving.”  How very thankful we are for our Grandson.  He is such a blessing!  We are also very thankful for our precious daughter (his mom).  We love them both more than words can express, and we are so grateful for God gifting them to us.  Such joy they have brought us.

Our grandson’s Thanksgiving Card, Silhouette Cameo #98939, Inside salutation
#51018, and pumpkin border, #22286.   He always likes having a bit of spending money to buy whatever he needs or desires.

A Thanksgiving Card for our daughter.  The pumpkin card is Silhouette #103963.  Stamps are from Papertrey Ink, Fair Isle Borders and Harvest Berries.   Autumn leaves are from Stampin Up, Lighthearted Leaves Die.  Green leaf stems from Spellbinders #S4-867, brown swirls from Spellbinders #S6-050.  Salutation die, PTI Tag Sale-Quilted Die.  The idea for this card came from LilyBean Paperie.  She designs such beautiful cards!
As always, I enclosed a bit of coffee money.

Some snacks for them to share.  The pumpkin treat bag is Silhouette #68265.
Also not pictured is Annie’s Mac and Cheese which SMQ loves, some squeezable fruit pouches, and cereal box tops for school.

For his mom, a Daily Bread 2019 Daily Planner/Calendar, some Shea Body Lotion, and Trader Joe’s Chia Seed and Hemp Seed Bars.

SMQ likes History, his favorite subject!  So I thought this Thanksgiving Trivia quiz would be right down his alley.  And it comes with a bonus of $1 for each correct answer, payable in his next “Love in a Box” package.

Scrapbooking – AZ Trip

I just finished up with the Scrapbooking pages for Lori and Sean’s trip to Arizona.  We truly did have such a wonderful time with them.  I so enjoyed putting this together!  Before sending it out to them in their September “Love in a Box” package, I asked Rick to review it, and he said, “I love it, but it makes me miss them all the more.”

Are We there yet.jpgOur first and last sights at the Canyon.  As we headed for the Visitor’s Center for
Sean Michael to get his Jr. Ranger certification, we were greeted by the Cookie Monster.  Sean was rather surprised by this nice farewell happening.

taken during their trip here.  I designed the template and cover for disk and saved it for future use on my Silhouette Cameo.  They can add their own photos to this.

Previous completed pages can be found under “Scrapbooking” on the Category List.  I did add a few blank pages for them to put their own notes or pictures in the back of the Scrapbook.

Enjoying the wonderful memories,

Scrapbooking – AZ Trip – Flights & At Home

Flight Scrapbook PageHad to hold back the tears as we welcomed them here at Sky Harbor.  We were never so glad to see anyone more than those two precious ones!  We stopped for lunch at
Sweet Tomatoes in Phoenix.  Lori said she would like salad so that was the perfect place!  Sean Michael could have pizza, ice cream, etc., and he did have a bit of salad too.

When we got home, Sean Michael found his July “Love in a Box” waiting for him and got busy building with the Legos and enjoying a few snacks.  We had a Linger Longer after church on Sunday night to celebrate Coral’s birthday, and Pastor was so kind to include Sean in the celerbration as his birthday was coming up in July.  Pastor and Crystal sent him home with a bag of baloons, so one for each finger.

Indoor Fun
Sean Michael enjoyed making some fun projects on my Silhoutte cutting machine.
He was pretty fascinated with how the machine cut so exactly and was pretty excited to put the projects together.  He selected three photos of the canyon to put into his
Never-ending Hexagon Card Design ID #265984:

How we made it:
I will cut another blank card set with triangle template in the scrapbook photo pocket for him to make at home with his own design.

LQ Running
Lori got out each morning we were at home for a morning run.  She seemed to take the heat well, and enjoyed checking out the neighborhood.  We would find her notes by the coffee pot (Love the smily face.)

Scrapbooking – Canyon Trip – Junior Ranger

SMQ was pretty enthusiastic to receive his Junior Ranger Activity Booklet the first day of our visit to the canyon at the Desert View Watchtower and started to work on completing it immediately.   We loved the idea of SMQ being really engaged in learning something new and exploring the Canyon in a way that he might not have done without the activity book.  He was pretty happy to finally sight a squirrel to note in his booklet at Hermit’s Rest, the last stop on our shuttle tour.  We couldn’t have been prouder to see him receive his badge and a sticker for extra work done in his booklet.  He could hardly wait for the opportunity to be sworn in as a Junior Ranger.

I am so enjoying putting these pages together and reminiscing the grand and memorable days we spent as a family at the Canyon.

Scrapbooking – AZ Trip – At the Canyon

Accommodations at the Canyon:

Grand Cayon Plaza Resort 2
We were very thankful to find these accommodations at the Canyon Plaza Resort just 7 miles and about 5 minutes from the South Rim.    This is such a busy time of year at the Canyon and only a few rooms for booking were available.  The staff was very friendly and helpful, and check in and check out went very smoothly.  Our room was located in an adjacent building with a nice balcony overlooking the woods and really close to the pool, which LQ and SMQ appreciated.  I designed this page on my Silhouette making a pocket for the hotel information.  I used Picasa 3 to make the collage.

RP's Stage Stop.jpg
This truly was a “gem of a find” right near the Canyon Plaza Resort Hotel.  We were going to get a quick breakfast as Wendy’s but since it was not open at 7 a.m. Lori suggested we try this.  So glad we did.  SMQ really liked designing his own breakfast sandwich (me too), and getting his souvenir penny pressed.  Scrapbook page was designed on my Silhouette and the collage was done with Picassa 3.

What I liked about
I added a journaling page designed on my Silhouette for them to write what they liked about our accommodations and the near by Stage Stop.

Scrapbooking – AZ trip

One of the first things SMQ asked when he arived in AZ was “Grandma, can we make scones, you know it is a tradition!”  And so we did just that!  He really does a great job in the kitchen, and the results are pretty tasty!  He wanted to make blackraspberry scones, and we just happened to have some blackraspberries in the freezer.   Grandma also made some gluten-free butterscotch/pecan scones for grandpa.  First try at gluten-free scones turned out pretty well.  Grandpa is requesting more!

In the lower half of the page, the pictures are from past years of in the kitchen with grandma.  I designed these pages on my Silhoutte.  Fonts are Nana’s kitchen and LW Sugar  (appropriate font names.)  I sized the photos to fit the page and printed them on photo paper, then cut and placed on background paper.  Apron and utensils are from the Silhoutte store: a2 Cook’s apron card  #550929 and match box drawer card cooking #175840.

The second page included the recipe.  His mom thought it would be nice for him to bake these at home.  “Baked with Love” & “Yum Yum” are from the Silhouette Store.  I tied a piece of baker’s twine to the apron for apron ties.  I typed the recipe out on Word, printed it on Card stock and cut to fit page.

Scrapbooking – Daughter & Grandson Trip to AZ

We were more than elated to have our daughter and grandson from New York spending some vacation time with us here in Arizona.

In an attempt to chronicle their time here with us I am putting together this “AZ Vacation Scrapbook.”  We had such a great time with them and the week went by much too quickly.  We were glad to have this special time to make some wonderful memories.

Sean Michael loves history (his favorite subject in school) so I thought I would start off his scrapbook with a bit of the history of the State of Arizona.
Arizona History-page1
Arizona History-page2
1Get Air Trampoline Park  in Tucson was on their AZ “bucket list” and so we spent Monday morning there.  Rick and I were just exhausted watching LQ and SMQ jump for one hour (LQ) and two hours (SMQ)…a few calories burned there!  I desgined this page on my Silhouette and added a pocket for the CD for the videos we took there.  I designed the CD label on my silhouette: outside circle 4.625″ and inside circle 1.625″.

We stopped at Fudd’s for a lunch.  SMQ said it was the best hamburger he had ever eaten and LQ selected the Tex-Mex burger…she loves avocados!  Adding their chunky fries with cheese sauce, a drink and a cookie for SMQ made this a pretty yummy lunch.  I made a slotted space to house the menu.

Well, that’s a start!  I will post more pages as I complete them.

Card Crafting

Stamp Camp_edited-2FUN AT STAMP CAMP!

Ladies day out was such fun at Valerie Harding’s Stamp Camp here in AZ City!  Two of my friends and I spent an enjoyable afternoon crafting cards.  We were able to make 6 cards in just 4 hours, while chatting with some new friends and munching on some tasty snacks provided by Valerie.  You will notice that one card is missing…I gave it away!

We certainly did leave inspired and we so look forward to February’s Stamp Camp.
Please do check out Valerie’s webpage below.  You just might like to join us!

So sorry for such blurry pics.  I guess I really do need my upcoming
eye surgery.  Hopefully next pics will be a bit clearer.

Scrapbooking – Back to School

It’s never easy to leave those you love!  We have to admit we were a bit sad to be leaving New York  and the company of our family there.  We did have such a great visit with the friends and family we love and treasure.  When we dropped him off at school, Sean Michael showed us his classroom and introduced us to his teacher, Mrs. Mauser.  Soon another friend popped in and they were off to play!  Looking back at us, he said, “I’ll be praying for you to be safe on the airplane, Grandma and Grandpa.”  Precious Boy!

Scrapbooking – Bye, Bye, Tonsils!

We traveled to New York to be with our grandson during and following his surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids.  He was such a brave boy facing surgery.  He said he wanted to be strong like his dad!  Recovery was no fun.  Mom and Grandma stocked their refrigerators with plenty of ice cream, popsicles, pudding and soft, easy-to-swallow foods.

I do prefer scrapbook pages to have texture and embellishments that are dimensional and touchable so I design the page digitally then complete the page step by step using my Silhouette Cameo die cutting machine.  I put mats under the pics and add ribbon, buttons, etc. to embellish.  The plus is that I have a copy, and he will have the original for his memory book.   I inserted a journal tag for him or his mom to journal his memories of this probably not-so-fun time in his life.  I’ll package this up with a protective sheet and enclose it in my grandson’s monthly package to New York.
