Crafty Corner – Cards & Gifts

I had such a fun time putting together these gifts for some sweet little friends.  Just with their presence they bring such joy to our hearts…they truly are such a delight!

St.Pats purses.jpg
I like the challenge of gift giving that spares the receiver of sugar-laden sweets so I thought this St. Pat’s themed purse was such a great idea for the three girly girls.  I put a magnetic closure on the front pocket.  This is Silhouette design #57257. One of the mothers told me that dad and daughter have weekly dates and go shopping… how perfect…she can use a little green.

Then I had to come up with and idea for the boys…of course, wallets.
St.Pats Wallets.jpg
These were designed on my Silhouette using design #60408.  The St. Patrick’s Clover pattern is design #187375.  I like being able to use purchased patterns which enables me to fill in required areas and size them to my liking.  The St. Pat’s greeting was a download from Google images.

I designed these tags on my Silhouette and tied them to squeezable applesauce packs.
I was wondering if the children would really undertand the idea of getting pinched on St. Patrick’s Day, but to my surprise, they and their parents were all wearing green.
When I remarked how great that was, their response was “We didn’t want to get pinched.”  How great was that!

We were so pleased to receive in return such beautiful  “Thank You’s.”  They all are learning to use watercolors.  Love having these works of art displayed on our fridge!

St.Pats card.jpg
This double fold St. Pat’s Card was an idea that was an inspiration out of our
Church Ladies Card Cafting evening.  Our pastor’s wife and friend, Crystal, is so very talented when it comes to crafts.  I put a Irish twist on this card and felt the Irish Blessing on the inside was so perfect for a friend who encourages me on a daily basis.  She truly is a blessing to so many.  The die cut doily is from Papertrey Ink. The shamrock is from the Silhouette store design #250822.

Marlene's BD card 2019.jpg
Made this card for my friend Marlene.  She is so very dear to me.  Enjoyed having her for a birthday dinner and a great time of fellowship together.  She loves purple!  This card is Silhouette Design #12477 Grandma’s Tablecloth Double Edge.  Stamps are Stampin Ups “Birthday blooms.”

Well that sort of catches me up on some crafting, and now I would like to get started on sa few Easter cards and gifts.

Menu Plan Monday – March 25, 2019

https://simplycornish.wordpress.com/2017/04/03/menu-plan-monday-april-3-2017/

I have been ill with a respiratory infection, bronchitis since last Wednesday, so menu planning did not go all that well last week.  I did manage to make another Corned Beef dinner in the pressure cooker, which only took about an hour and a half and we survived on that a couple of days.  We also had some leftover chicken and waffles.
My husband is getting pretty good at fending for himself with a few of his frozen favorites, and even makes sure I have something on a bedtray when I am feeling too sick to cook.  He’s definitely a keeper.

Gluten Free – Brown & White Bread

BasicWhiteBread2

Ingredients:

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cup plus 2 Tbs. Water
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3 Tbs. Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Cider Vinegar
Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups White Rice Flour
  • 1 cup Brown Rice Flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Dry Milk Powder
  • 3 Tbs Sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast
Instructions
BREAD MACHINE METHOD
  1.  Combine wet, room temperature ingredients; pour into baking pan. All dry ingredients, including the yeast, should be thoroughly blended together before adding on top of the wet ingredients. Mixing them together in a bowl with a wire whisk or shaking them together in a gallon size, self-sealing plastic bag is suggested. Gluten-free flours are very fine and need to be well blended before liquid is added to them.
  2. Select a NORMAL or BASIC cycle; start machine. For bread machines with a BAKE ONLY cycle, select the DOUGH cycle for mixing and rising. Press STOP when the cycle is complete; then select the BAKE ONLY cycle to complete the bread. After the mixing action begins, help any unmixed ingredients into the dough with a rubber spatula, keeping to edges and top of batter to prevent interference with the kneading blade.
  3. When the bake cycle is complete, remove the pan from the machine. Allow the bread to remain in the pan for approximately 10 minutes, then invert pan and shake gently to remove the bread. Cool upright on a rack before slicing.
MIXER METHOD
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the wet, room temperature ingredients and mix well. All dry ingredients, including the Active Dry Yeast, should be thoroughly blended together before adding to the wet ingredients. Mixing them together in a bowl with a wire whisk or shaking them together in a gallon size, self-sealing plastic bag is suggested. Gluten-free flours are very fine and need to be well blended before liquid is added to them.
  2. With the mixer on a low speed, gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet until well blended. Beat about 10 minutes. Pour batter into three 2- x 5-inch greased bread pans or one large 9- x 5-inch loaf pan; allow to rise approximately 1 hour. Bake at 375°F for 30 to 60 minutes respectively; use a toothpick to test for doneness.
  3. When baking is complete, remove the pan from the oven and wait for 10 minutes before removing the bread from the pan. Cool on wire rack before slicing.

Extra Flaky Gluten Free Pie Crust

1371587288589
This recipe is my favorite Gluten Free Pie Crust.  When making pot pies,  I just refrigerate the rolled out 9″ crust and then turn out on the top of the pie, fold over and crimp the edges and bake the pot pie until crust is golden.

1 c. white rice flour
5 tbs. potato starch
3 tbs. tapioca starch
3/4 tsp. xanthan gum
1/4 tsp. baking powder
6 tbs. butter, chopped and chilled
1/2 c. sour cream, full fat
ice water, if necessary

Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large bowl.  Add the butter and toss to coat with flour mixture.  Either use a pastry blender and thumb and fingers to combine.  Add the sour cream and knead with clean hands until it comes together.  Form dough into a disk shape and wrap with plastic wrap   Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Grease a 9″ pie pan and set aside.

After the dough has been chilled, turn out onto floured plastic wrap and roll out in between layers of plastic wrap into a 9″ circle about 3/8″ thick.  Place in pie pan and
crimp edges.  Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.  Take the shell out of the refrigerator, discard the plastic wrap, and pierce the bottom with a fork.
Place a sheet of parchment paper on the raw crust and add pie weights (I use uncooked beans) and bake in preheated oven until golden brown (about 10 minutes.)
Cool crust before proceeding.

Makes 1  9-10″ pie crust

I use this recipe to make tart shells and to top meat pot pies with.

Love in a Box – March 2019 Theme: St. Patrick’s Day

This month “marched” in pretty quickly!   March ushers in the first day of Spring and hosts some pretty special days and observances, i.e., National Craft Month (rah, rah),  Act Happy Week (3rd Week), and for special days:  Ash Wednesday (6th), Get over it day (9th), National Pi Day (14th), Our Dear Darling Daughter’s Birthday which also just happens to be Incredible Kid Day (15th), Saint Patrick’s Day (17th), First Day of Spring (20th), & I Am In Control Day (30th).

Our grandson does have an Irish background, with his father’s lineage being from Irish decent, and his mother’s also of Irish decent from the Patterson/Cornish lineage.  So Sean Michael is a wee bit Irish.

There no better way to celebrate St. Pat’s Day than with a bit of extra cash to buy
something you really want.  This shammrock gift box card is Silhouette design #757861 and tag sentiment was designed on my Silhouette.

Our daughter’s card with a bit of coffee money to make her days a little more enjoyable which was my own design cut on the Silhouette.

How nice to see her enjoying that gift and sharing it with a friend.   Chocolate Raspberry Iced Coffee!!

Our daughter is turning 50 this  year and is still looking absolutely fabulous!  Wow, where are the years going??  Her card was designed with Silhouette desgin #61801 Fancy Stiletto, 50 & fabulous phrase #227592.

St. Pat's LIAB 4-collage

We always have a pack a few snacks and goodies…Seed Bars, Pistashios, candy treats. Four leaf clover treat wrap is Silhouette design #286785 and I changed the phrase to read “grandson” instead of “friend.”  And of course, his monthly tic tac box.  And a green dish scrubbie (my daughter loves these.)

IMG_2722A pair of silly socks and pencils.

St. Pat's LIAB 8-collage.jpg

Our daughter said Sean needed a wallet so we ordered one (camo of course) and another fleece hood for their ski outings.  Sent these separately from the mail source, and they arrived on a day that Sean really needed some encouraging.
Perfect timing with smiles all around!

Call to Glory devotionals, one for our grandson and one for our daughter.

I love the phrase , “Love is a verb,” meaning that love is more than just words, but requires action also.   These “Love In A Box” packages are an expression of our love for our daughter and our grandson.  As I work on putting together these creations, I find myself having them so much on my mind and in my heart.
We love and cherish them both!
