I can hardly believe that I have been doing weekly menu planning for over 40 plus years now. I can recall how in my earlier years of marriage being so frustrated with coming home from work with no idea of what to serve for dinner. The obvious answer was planning! Planning (also called forethought) is the process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal.
My goal: dinner on the table in little time and with less effort.
I started with weekly menu planning for a two-week period that coincided with our paycheck schedule. I made the grocery list while planning the menus and only shopped every two weeks. I learned how to have a well-stocked pantry living then in snow country. Planning really did make life a bit easier!
After 50 years of marriage, I still menu plan. Now I do a monthly menu plan coordinating menus to my calendar with lighter, freezer or crock pot meals on busier days. We both have been retired for some time now, and menu planning is a bit more flexible. We do enjoy eating out or getting take-out and usually do that once a week.
I do love being a homemaker! I love to clean and organize, to bake and cook, to decorate and create tablescapes, to garden (somewhat limited in the desert), and to make our home one comfortable and enjoyable for not only us but our guests also.
