Menu Plan Monday – May 8, 2017

I  can hardly believe that I have been doing weekly menu planning for over 40 plus years now.  I can recall how in my earlier years of marriage being so frustrated with coming home from work with no idea of what to serve for dinner.  The obvious answer was planning!   Planning (also called forethought) is the process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal.
My goal:  dinner on the table in little time and with less effort.

I started with weekly menu planning for a two-week period that coincided with our paycheck schedule.  I made the grocery list while planning the menus and only shopped every two weeks.  I learned how to have a well-stocked pantry living then in snow country.  Planning really did make life a bit easier!

After 50 years of marriage, I still menu plan.  Now I do a monthly menu plan coordinating menus to my calendar with lighter, freezer or crock pot meals on busier days.  We both have been retired for some time now, and menu planning is a bit more flexible.  We do enjoy eating out or getting take-out and usually do that once a week.
I do love being a homemaker!  I love to clean and organize, to bake and cook, to decorate and create tablescapes, to garden (somewhat limited in the desert), and to make our home one comfortable and enjoyable for not only us but our guests also.

On to this week’s menu—-

Creative Corner – Card Making

Spent a lovely day crafting cards with friends.  Thanks to my friend, Crystal for her open heart and open home, and her great ideas and delicious brunch.  We all had such great fun!

IMG_0775 (1)

Seems as if I never have enough get well cards.  Loved the idea of embossing some of the layers and adding the get well greeting  and butterfly made with die cuts.

IMG_0774 (1)

The polygon shapes were cut from a really special paper (from Michaels) with a punch then sponged edged with brown ink.  Love the effect!  After all done, I realized that I should have centered the three beginning polygons a bit better as it left the right edge with really small fill in’s.  Next time I will get it right!

IMG_0767 (1)These just happen to be my favorite colors!  We started with the strip down the middle and added various colored/sized strips to fill in.  How cute is the die cut bow!

IMG_0782This card I made in my own little creative space at home.  Love this new Sizzix “Hexagons Dynamic” Embossing folder from Stampin Up.  Happy Birthday greeting from Stampin Up “Best Birds” and  chicken and banner salutation from “Hey, Chick” Sale-a-Bration Freebie.  Don’t ya just love FREE!

This tag over my desk is pretty much where I am at these days…drinking coffee and making stuff.  That’s what I love to do.  This freebie is from Kimber & Dawn.  This site has so many wonderful free cut files.  You just have to check it out:    http://kimberdawnco.com/category/free-cut-files/

I love this new shelf my hubby put up over my desk area.  It perfectly holds my crafting supplies which are now right at my fingertips.  A lot of crafting goes on in this small space in our guest bedroom.

Love in a Box – May 2017

Our grandson’s “Love in a Box” will be at his New York post office box for pick up today. Rick and I do enjoy putting these themed boxes together each month, and find it interesting that items seem to almost magically appear that are just perfect selections for his love box.  May’s theme is “You’re Out of This World.”

Rocket Card
This spaceship card is made on my Silhouette Cameo, Design #88804: spaceship folded card.  Grandpa always tucks in a bit of cash.

The2359 stamps from Papertrey Ink were a gift from my crafty friend, Crystal.   They mistakenly shipped her two stamp sets and allowed her to keep both.  What a perfectly timed gift!  They worked well to design the Skittles bag topper (From Silhouette design #57964) and tic tac holder.

Rocket PenI found this spaceship pen at the Pima Air & Space Museum on our recent visit there.  Such a great place to visit….check out their webpage:  http://www.pimaair.org/
