Here are a few of our favorite places to eat when visiting Central New York.
Pita Gourmet, 41 Main Street, Cortland, NY 13045 (607) 756-4442
Great Lebanese food. Great baba ganoosh, humus and falafel.
The fish pita is fresh and amazing. This is one of our daughter’s favorite
spots to eat. We often take out an order of humus (the best I’ve ever had.)
Bob’s BBQ & Catering, 5260 W. Rd. Route 281, Homer, NY 13077 (607) 753-7098
You buy your food outside from the grill….then collect your plastic utensils and paper towels and pick a picnic bench to eat at anywhere on their very pretty property. Ribs, chicken, brisket, beans, sweet potatoes, salads, and corn on the cob. Our favorite is
the BBQ Chicken Dinner!
Doug’s Fish Fry, 206 West Road, Cortland, NY 13045 (607) 753-91845
One of our all time favorite restaurants! Amazingly great fried fish sandwiches, homemade fries & onion rings. Now that we eat gluten free, we can choose to have the grilled chicken, salmon or lobster roll (minus the roll.) Another great GF choice would be the steamers!
Fat Jack’s BBQ, 234 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY 13045 (607) 344-3777
Went here our first day in New York for lunch. Pretty tasty groceries! A bit pricey but well worth it. We enjoyed the Tennessee Trainwreck Combo plate, 3 meats plus 2 sides. Our grandson added sides of Corn on the Cob and Mac and Cheese.
Buffet Star, 4089 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850 (607) 729-1083
Definitely the top Chinese buffet in the area. were very tasty, and reasonably priced! Most importantly though, the food was excellent, from start to finish. There were a lot of choices – this was one very expansive buffet!
Phil’s Chicken House, 1208 Union Center Maine Hwy, Endicott, NY 13760
They will guarantee lots and lots of food, including: Grade-A chicken cooked over a rotisserie with Phil’s secret sauce; an assortment of homemade salads are available to choose from; breads and desserts are baked fresh daily; along with other meat alternatives; and all dinners fresh and tasty whether you dine in or take out.
This is one of our must go to places to eat while in New York.
Magro’s (VJ’s) Restaurant Pizza & Catering, 169 Utica St., Hamilton, NY 13346
This is a very nice (a” workingman’s” type of place) eatery – serves Breakfast, Lunches, Dinners. A varied menu that suits all palates; food is well prepared and presented by courteous wait staff who will strive to meet your specific tastes. Prices are very reasonable. We did have an enjoyable lunch with Pops and Connie Wright; Connie had a Fish dinner, Rick had a steak salad, Pops had his favorite Mac and Cheese, and I had a BLT wrap. Portions were very large making the need for to-go boxes. Next time I plan to have the Chicken Riggies, one of my NY favorite entrees.
Have a yummy week,
